Warran Glen Cafe

The cafe culture in Melbourne has come along in leaps and bounds over the last 20 to 30 years. Not far behind is the rise of the suburban cafe and there are plenty of exceptional ones around if you know where to look. Warran Glen is one of those worthy of a trip simply because it's so much more than just a cafe.

Warran Glen is set on 5 acres of gorgeous lush gardens complete with a small lake that is home to a handful of resident ducks and bird life. On entering you will be pleasantly overwhelmed with the welcoming ambiance of the giftshop where you will find everything from clothes, kids toys, jewellery, furniture, homewares, candles and outdoor decor. If you're looking for a unique gift for a loved one this is the place to find it. I must confess I've never really delved too deeply into the garden centre at Warran Glen but for those green thumbs out there it is sure to be paradise.

If you want to enjoy the stunning view overlooking the lake and gardens from the balcony of the cafe then you must book ahead as tables are limited and understandably never appear to be empty. If you can't get a balcony table don't despair because the outdoor alfresco area is just as divine with its lush plantings and choice of tables in the sun or under cover. Enjoy a lazy summer breakfast or lunch until 3pm each day of the week. The menu caters for light lunches through to something more substantial and you will often find extra delights in the cabinets including plenty of choices for vegetarians.

The Warran Glen cafe is simply delightful and is a must to share stories over lunch with a loved one or treat mum or grandma to a special day out for her birthday or mother's day. The combination of nursery, giftshop, cafe and gardens means you can easily spend an entire afternoon there. Although best enjoyed in the milder months, the cafe provides plenty of undercover seating with heating for the cooler months so don't let ordinary weather stop you from visiting.
